Using the Archives
This catalogue will enable you to conduct a preliminary search of some of our holdings before visiting.
'How do I search the Catalogue' button provides advice, hints, and tips about using the online catalogue, so read through this page before starting your search. Once you have found what you are looking for, you can come into Birmingham Archives and Heritage and view your selection (subject to the condition of the items and any access restrictions that may apply).
'What's in the Catalogue' button provides a summary about the types of collections you can expect to find entries for.
Handling Archives
Documents preserved in Birmingham Archives and Heritage are unique. Please help us to preserve these documents by following the guidelines for use in the archives searchroom. Sometimes, we are unable to serve certain documents/materials because they are fragile, or because handling them would damage them.
Items from our collections can be viewed by appointment in the Wolfson Centre. You can find details of our opening hours and how to make an appointment on the City Council website.
Reader Ticket system (Archives Card)
The CARN reader ticket system has now been replaced by the Archives Card. You can find out more and register for a card on the Archives Card website.
