Once you have found what you are looking for, you can come into Birmingham Archives and Heritage and view your selection (subject to the condition of the items and any access restrictions that may apply).

Handling Archives

Documents preserved in Birmingham Archives and Heritage are unique. Please help us to preserve these documents by following the guidelines for use in the archives searchroom. Sometimes, we are unable to serve certain documents/materials because they are fragile, or because handling them would damage them.

Ordering material

We recommend that anyone wishing to use material in Archives, Heritage and Photography contacts us in advance of their visit, to check that the material they wish to see is available. Space in our reading rooms is limited, and retrieval of items from our secure strong rooms takes some time, so booking in advance can ensure you make the most of your visit to the Library. Please e-mail giving details of exactly what you would like to see and when you would like to visit the library.
